Gerlach, Nevada Summer Arts Festival '06Each year thousands of art lovers descend on the small town of Gerlach, Nevada and set up camp just outside the city limits for a week of art, music, dance, and fun. The festival is well known for its extraordinarily creative arts projects which range from "art vehicles" to light displays to enormous wooden sculptures which dot the vast desert landscape like ships at sea. One of the important tenets of the festival is to "leave no trace" so that when the art lovers depart each Labor Day for home no one will be able to tell that a small city existed on this spot the day before. In 2007 the focus was to be even more "earth friendly" with recycling programs, gray water disposal, and encouraging the use of biodiesel. These photos were made at the 2006 and 2007 festival and just like its philosophy for a money-less society - they are not for sale! |
