Arlington WestArlington West is a tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. White, wooden crosses have been placed on the beach beneath the Santa Monica pier every Sunday since February, 2003 as a memorial to the individuals who have died during these conflicts. The mission of this exhibit is to honor the fallen and wounded and to provide a place for the community to grieve and to encourage dialogue about the United States at war. Adjacent to the exhibit is information and literature available from the Veteran's Administration and Vet Centers for returning soldiers. In addition, there is a wall that displays all of the names of the fallen. Visitors are encouraged to place names, notes and flowers on the crosses. The photographs in this album were made during the Memorial Day and Veteran's Day events of 2005.
